The Murder Mystery (July '10)

What a sure bet in July for a great time! Many thanks to Roseanne for her gracious hosting of yet another afternoon of great fun, great acting, and great food. And a special thank you to Penny and Tina also.

-Esther

Model Trains (August '10)

Thanks to Fil and Barb for opening their home and allowing us into their world of trains. We had a great time playing with the trains. Later we enjoyed diner at a quaint place nearby.

Kudos to Bob and Ed. . .(July '10)

They put together a wonderful, informative Brunch that was attended not only by new, hesitant members but also by a dynamic

group of more seasoned members, and those, like myself, who keep joining and then stalling. We were welcomed and made to feel a part  of a warm and inviting

organization. After Brunch, many of us went to Bob’s house for continued discussion and sharing of ideas for the future. I had e-mails before bedtime by Kathy J. inviting me to work with the Food

Pantry and reminding me of my interest in the February cruise.

Way to go! With this kind of public relations SOS can never fail.

-Many thanks, Silk S.

Memorial Day Picnic (May '10)

The Memorial Day Picnic was a great success. 152 people turned out for a day of good food, fun and friendship.
There was a lot going on.  Fred Jacobs did a wonderful job providing music for dancing, we had a great plant sale, and games galore.  Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it a fun day for all of us.

The Real World (Apr. '10)

At a recent

Real World Discussion

when the topic was “Thoughts of Love”,

the 25 participants expressed their

random thoughts on the subject of

love. After a lot of laughter and a few

serious moments, Ed M. summed up the feeling expressed by the group by saying, “Love is a committed relationship that outlasts trials and tribulations and is both comfortable and exciting.” The members concurred with a round of applause.

What a great evening!! I think I

love the Real World— my feelings fit

Ed’s definition of love.

Mardi Gras Dinner & Murder Mystery (Feb. '10):

Just a note of thanks once again to Roseanne and Penny from all your friends in Singles Outreach for hosting this time, their incredible

“MARDI GRAS DINNER AND MURDER MYSTERY GAME” on February 20. An absolutely WONDERFUL time was had by all in attendance, not to mention the delicious and authentic cajun and creole foods served!

Frear Park  (Nov.'09):

Frear Park in Troy on Nov. 8, 2009 provided a great place for nine Autumn Walkers to get terrific exercise as we rambled up and down the golf course paths and hills. Although some of us afterward added back the calories burned on the walk, we had fun talking and enjoying our lunch at a Brunswick diner.

Watervliet Shaker Site:

The Watervliet Shaker Site provided eight History and Art Fans with a fascinating guided walking tour of the original Shaker settlement, right in our own backyard.

We toured the museum, and walked the grounds to see a number of buildings, a Shaker cemetery where the founder Ann Lee is buried, an herb garden, and to learn about the Shaker’s unique single lifestyle. We then had a tasty lunch and socialized at the Shaker Shed.

Tang Museum (Nov. '09):

Seventeen History and Arts Fans enjoyed a guided tour of the Hudson Quadricentennial exhibit at the Tang Museum at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs on Nov. 14, 2009. Paintings, artifacts, ephemera, and sound recordings were on display to add a very different perspective to our understanding of the Hudson River and its exploration. We also viewed the Tang’s other unique exhibits of modern sculptures and paintings. Afterward, the group gathered at the Old Bryant Inn for socializing and great food.

WEST POINT (Oct. 09):

Went to West Point with about 15 others to see the Army football game. Highlights, I’d say, were tailgate party - everyone pitching in with food and drink (scrumpdelicious!); game was “one for the ages”with freakish plays throughout, especially toward the end (Kathy- Are you now a BIG fan?); ended the day with dinner at Torches Restaurant on the Hudson River (excellent food, great scenery).

Thanks to drivers and to Maureen for arranging the trip.

Saratoga (August '10)

We had a wonderful time at Breakfast trackside in Saratoga in an atmosphere of excitement--anticipating something wonderful about to happen. A beautiful day, beautiful track, beautiful horses, and beautiful people. With much laughter, we came home winners and losers. An awesome day at the "in" place to be in August.

Brooklyn Bridge Trip (June '10)

Many thanks to Marie for a wonderful day spent in NYC.

The Mega Bus was very comfortable

and easily accessible. Walking over

Brooklyn Bridge was warm and

very scenic from seeing the Statue

of Liberty to the sign on the opposite

side of the bridge stating, "How

sweet it is”. The South Street Seaport was a great place to spend the remainder of the day watching the entertainment, boat rides, good food and, of course, the ice cream. Also Marie did an excellent job of

keeping all 24 of us together on the

subway. Great Job Marie!!!!!!

-Kathy J.

Tai Chi (May '10)

What a wonderful experience TAI CHI is proving to be. Members are enjoying the many physical, mental and emotional benefits involved in our continuing series

taught by Beth Ruggeri. Thanks Beth from all of us!

-Annie P.

Berkshire Museum (Dec. '09):

History and Art Fans journeyed to the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, MA on Dec. 5, 2009 to see the Festival of Trees. Six participants saw a beautiful and creative display of Christmas trees decorated in silver themes that celebrated the Museum’s silver anniversary. Before our delicious Christmas lunch at Jimmy’s Italian restaurant, there was also time to see the aquarium and the natural history and art exhibits in that interesting Museum.

The Real World (Nov. '09):

The topic was "Understanding The Signals".  Through a lively discussion, both men and women shared their thoughts and ultimately gained some insight into the hidden meanings of signals that we consciously and unconsciously send to one another.

NYC Trip (Oct. '09):

A big Thank You to Tony for allowing 16 of us to take a bite out of the Big Apple!

The day was beautiful as we toured Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral (I did pray for all of you!), Ground Zero, and the South Street Seaport. We also enjoyed delicious Chinese food in China Town.

Watch for a trip in May to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge!

Rollins Pond Camping Trip (Aug. '09):

Twenty-two Singles Outreach campers, paddlers and friends endured and enjoyed a variety of weather conditions at the Rollins Pond State Campsite. Activities included paddling, hiking, biking, swimming, trips to the “Wild Museum”, shopping, more paddling, “pot luck suppers”, campfires, relaxing and more.

A good time was had by all . . . only a few bee stings and sore muscles to report. Thanks to everyone for joining in to make this a great outing!

-Ellen and Molly

Vrooman’s Nose Hike (Nov. 09):

We had a nice fall day - and Potluck dinner. The great part was that I made it to the top, Yeah! Thank you Sue for the adventure.
